What is a technical Institute?
AMWO’s technical institute is a place where orphans can both get an education and learn a skill. The team has recognised that it is not sustainable for some families in Afghanistan to send their kids to school because they can get more begging. When the choice comes between an education or some food on the table I think the choice we will make is clear and obvious.
For this reason, AMWO took an apprenticeship approach to educating orphans, this is through the technical institute. This is where they come to learn, read, write and speak their thoughts and ideas but not just that they get to observe and learn from other skilled mechanics for a third of their school day.
This approach to schooling ensures that they get an alternative way to live and earn a halal living straight out of school without the need to go to university or pursue a higher education.
How many orphans are there currently enrolled?
There are currently 25 orphans enrolled and only 5 of those are currently sponsored.
How much does it cost to sponsor an orphan?
It costs $55.00/month or $660.00/year, we do however ask our donors to commit to 1 year sponsorship.
What is the overall objective / outcome for an orphan when they leave?
Upon leaving the technical institute the orphan will have graduated high school without the need to pursue further education, he will have the opportunity to work as a skilled mechanic and be employed by AMWO or work independently elsewhere.
